FanOffBirdSafe

Formed in Eau Claire, WI in 2009.

After living in CA for 12 years and seeing efforts put into Primitive Son/Spicoli go squandered due to member commitments and the overall bitch that is the Southern California music scene, Bushman shifted his focus to Modern Fix Magazine.

12 Years on the coast and a good run as one of the nation's premiere free street zines came to an abrupt halt as the twat-waffles that run the country ran everything into the ground in 2008.

Bushman decided a relocation to the area of his birth to be closer to family and a sense of a more pure music scene drew him back to Eau Claire, WI.

Within a year, Bushman tapped long-time scenester Matt Florence for bass (who was just reacclimating back from his own time on the west coast as the guitarist for Naked Aggression). A random outing to check out Aloha Triangle, a local group of avant-garde noise merchants who would assault venues with completely improvisational sets, would find the future drummer for FanOffBirdSafe. Aloha Triangle had long time friends and scene companions (the singer from Inamorata on guitar, and the bassplayer from Contagion) among its ranks, so it was an easy introduction to drummer Andy Mulheron.

Within a couple of practice, songs were flowing and a band was formed. The name came from Bushman's pet red headed finch, 'Ozzy Osbird'. A sticky note attached to a bathroom door that read, 'Fan off? Bird safe.' ensured visitors would check to make sure the ceiling fan was off before opening the bathroom door, and letting the bird fly about the apartment (as he wasn't kept in a cage). Reading that note day after day subliminally planted it as a good, original band name. Debatable on 'good', but definitely original.

Strong reception at local shows led to a few out of town gigs and the recording of the four song demo, 'eeepee'.

One of the songs from that release, the band's self-titled anthem, 'FanOffBirdSafe' was used as a 'bumper' track on the Howard Stern channel's reality show, "The Killers of Comedy on the Road".

That high profile appearance led to more shows and chance for the band to meet and party with some of the core Howard Stern crew (The Reverend Bob Levy, Shuli, Sal the Stockbroker, and Beetlejuice!)

This momentum lead to more serious touring, show commitments, and recording scheduled which posed a problem for bassplayer Florence.

The search for a good replacement had Broc Seigneurie fill in for some shows, but it was Marc Stolp, Jr, a long-time friend of Mulheron and ex-guitarist of Desolate Void, who brought a greasy and gritty low end to the FanOffBirdSafe sound that made the most sense.

After the set was solidified and a few more songs written, FanOffBirdSafe went back into the studio with full momentum to record their debut full length, 'Physical Mark of Guilt'. The album was again recorded by long-time colaborator and engineer supreme, Jaime Hanson at April Base in Fall Creek, WI. The facilities are top of the line as it is the home studio of Justin Vernon, better known as Bon Iver.

After numerous delays with final mixes, mastering, and duplication issues... the album finally dropped in February of 2016 with cover art by reknowned artist Sean Dietrich that was created specifically for this release.

Touring and obvious world domination lay ahead.
